In the heart of New Farm, this project strikes a careful balance between preservation and progress, creating a modern extension that thoughtfully transforms an original interwar corner store into a contemporary family residence, while retaining the property’s versatile commercial potential rooted in its historic use.

Working within the heritage framework, this renovation and addition was a true collaboration between client, builder and designer. The process required sensitivity to the building’s character while creating new, light-filled living spaces that meet the expectations of modern life.

The original structure, once a neighbourhood store, has been carefully restored, its historical façade and charm retained, while the new rear extension introduces refined contemporary living quarters. Clean lines, high ceilings and natural light define the addition, seamlessly connecting old and new through crafted materials and considered detailing.

Inside, bespoke joinery, soft neutral tones and layered textures create calm and cohesion between eras. The kitchen anchors the new heart of the home, flowing effortlessly into open living areas and a private deck retreat overlooking the city lights of Brisbane

What stands today is more than an extension, it’s the next chapter in the story of a New Farm landmark, brought into the 21st century with care, craftsmanship and a deep respect for its past.
